Building the Dream

Taking a passion, a hobby, an interest, and making the decision to share it with others can be quite intimidating. When I started capturing life through photography, I never envisioned the path I am currently on. I have always been passionate about art, life, and advocacy, and when I was younger had the ambition of becoming a photographic journalist. These dreams were snuffed out by adults who did not view that path as sustainable or dependable to provide for me financially, so I pursued other interests. Still, in the back of my mind was the nagging thought that there was more for me to do.

The idea of sharing life, both my own and the lives of others, excites me. My goal with photography, as I progress, is to use my art to share the small moments in life and the beauty in the small details. People always ask me about my travels and are interested in who I’ve met and what I’ve done. I yearn to share those moments as intimately as possible, so that the outside world is not so foreign to them.

Creating my business, building a website, and attempting to join art shows has been quite the task. I am by no means a business woman, although I try to do everything myself anyway. Stubborn, I know. I can’t help it…I’ve survived on being an independent woman! Why should I stop now? All of this to say, there are obstacles, and there are bumps, and although at times it feels like the process has taken much longer than it should have, I am proud of where I am and what I’ve accomplished. If nothing else, I hope that my photography allows others to see how truly breathtaking the world is and provides them with a sense of hope, longing, peace, excitement, curiosity, and adventure.
